Strengthening Cybersecurity in Schools with EDR
Published 23rd April 2025
In a significant step forward for educational cybersecurity, Interm IT has upgraded all Acronis-supported schools to use Acronis’s cutting-edge Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solution. This move shifts schools beyond basic antivirus protection and towards a more robust, proactive cybersecurity model.
This upgrade aligns closely with the UK Department for Education’s (DfE) Cyber Security Standards, particularly in helping schools progress through the levels of the DfE Cyber Security Standards Tool. By adopting EDR, schools are able to demonstrate a higher level of maturity in cyber threat protection and response—a key factor in achieving and maintaining compliance.
“We’re proud to bring this level of protection to our schools,” said Richard Spragg, MD of Interm IT. “With Acronis EDR, schools are not only more secure but are also better positioned to meet government cybersecurity expectations.”
Most antivirus software works like a checklist—it looks for threats it already knows about. But Acronis EDR is smarter. It watches what’s happening on computers all the time and looks out for anything unusual or suspicious. If it sees something strange, it can act right away to stop it, even if it's a brand-new type of threat. It also helps experts figure out what happened and fix any problems quickly. This proactive defense includes incident investigation tools and automated responses to neutralize threats before they can spread or cause damage.
The shift to EDR is a crucial enhancement in safeguarding sensitive school data, ensuring digital learning environments remain secure for students and staff alike.
